How a 73+ year old, "OLD MAN" views his world and those around him. Look for some sadness, some fun, hopefully lots of politics, and whatever may happen to appear here! Remember 73+ Year Old men tend to say what they think, so don't be offended, just comment when you have the opportunity. . "Be who you are and say what you feel... Because those that matter...Don't mind... And those that mind...Don't matter." ~~Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss)

PLEASE SIGN THE FOLLOWING PETITIONS TO KEEP THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS....
DEFEND NPR AND PBS
1. Tell Congress: Don't pull the plug on NPR and PBS!
In a recently released budget proposal, House Republicans announced plans to zero out all funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the nonprofit responsible for funding public media including NPR, PBS and more. Take action now to stop Republicans from destroying public media.
2. Targeting: The U.S. House of Representatives, Started by: Adriel Luis
This month, the Republican Study Committee introduced the Spending Reduction Act – a bill aimed to cut $2.5 trillion in government programs. Included in the list of 55 agencies to be eliminated are clean energy programs (like EnergyStar), arts programs (like the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowment for the Arts), environmental programs (like weatherization and beach erosion funds), public housing programs, benefits for federal employees, and international aid.
The Republican Study Committee is comprised of the majority of House Republicans, and they are claiming that the Spending Reduction Act is drafted as a result of "listening to the people." Please take a moment to sign this petition and let our representatives that cutting these programs is NOT the way to relieve national debt.

The Color TEST
These are the things we're supposed to do to remove the cholesterol around our brain and try to slow up Alzheimer's Disease.. A great test, do it until you get 100%!
Bet you can't get 100% on the first try! But I'm rootin' for ya...
This is pretty neat! See how you do with the colors! Have fun!
It takes an average of 5 tries to get to 100%. Follow the directions!
It's harder than it seems, as it should be! A brain waker-upper for today!

If you have ever taught ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ...you will understand
A First grade girl handed in the drawing below for her homework assignment.
WHEN I GROW UP, I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE MY MOMMY!!!
The teacher graded it and the child took it home.
She returned to school the next day with the following note to the teacher:
Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be perfectly clear on my child's homework illustration. It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint surrounded by male customers with money.
I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter, how much money we made in the recent snowstorm. This drawing is of me selling a shovel.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Harrington

Let's remember Dr. J. Karlem Riess, 1913-2005
The Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina
Times Picayune - KATRINA'S LIVES LOST The life stories behind the storm victims; Dr. J. Karlem Riess, 1913-2005 - Angus Lind, Staff writer New Orleans native John Karlem Riess transferred to Isidore Newman High School in seventh grade. There, someone said, "You know, you walk like a duck." That was the end of his first two names. "Ducky" Riess would go on to spend more than 70 years roaming the Tulane University campus, a beloved professor of physics who, yes, walked like a duck. Riess was the faculty advisor to fraternities for more than four decades, the university marshall who led countless graduation processions for 25 years, and a living legend at the home of the Green Wave. In 1949, Dean of Students Jack Stibbs, one of Riess' best pals, made him the Greek advisor. That began a lifetime of friendships and associations with college kids -- and their wild parties and shenanigans. In the classroom, Riess was a demanding professor, tough as nails, who brought out the best in students. As warden of the crazy fraternity houses, Riess was firm but more than tolerant of their occupants' partying lifestyle. He was always a staunch supporter of Greek life and truly believed fraternities enhanced college campus life. He was also quite proud of being a member of the same church, St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian, for more than 70 years. Riess' eyesight started to fail him 10 years ago and in the past couple of years, he began to lose his mobility. A bachelor, he lived with his sister Mary Riess on Audubon Boulevard near the Tulane campus. At the time Katrina struck, he was bedridden. Riess' sister was airlifted by helicopter from their home, taken by helicopter to the airport, then on to Baton Rouge. She got in touch with a cousin and wound up in Asheville, N.C. His friends assumed Riess was brought to Baton Rouge also, but he was not. He was evacuated by plane to Shreveport on Sept. 4, and died en route. "I had taken him to the Kappa Delta Phi honor society dinner in late March," said Riess' longtime friend Stanley Cohn. "His father founded it in 1905. He said he knew he would never live for the 100th anniversary celebration -- but he did. I think that was his last public outing." Though Riess had lost his sight and use of his upper and lower extremities, "His brain was 100 percent clear," Cohn said. "He had his full mental capacity." Riess was 92 when he died. "He truly was an icon," Cohn said. - Oct. 25, 2005

New DOCTOR...and new weight loss program
I have a new primary care doctor:
Dr. Trung N Le
Dr. Le is very much a caring doctor and has done a lot for me in such a short time.
He said I needed to lose a few pounds and I agreed, so he put me on a diet.....
i.e. Green Leafy and Crunchy veggie at every meal with whatever else I want....with some exceptions...no bananas, no ice cream, or anything with a high sugar content. Very much of the "Sugar Busters" diet without so many restrictions.
He insists on lots of chewing of food before I swallow....maybe 32 times and count it..SO FAR, it's working.
I weighted in rather heavily...then gained 8 pounds in a month, but after a second session of teaching this "old dog" new tricks, I have shed 25 pounds in two months...He would like for me to lose another 42 pounds but the end of 2010 and I think that might be possible.....
Hallelujah and thanks to Dr. Le...I will be the prettiest one, real soon.....

Update on Miss Lola......
Lola is a well bred Chihuahua, that does not bark and talk all the time, but gives ample warning of intruders in her space. She is very reserved like the owners, Keith and Gerry,
She has learned lots of new things and in particular, how to roll those eyes just right to get "Whatever Lola Wants" every day.
She is very shy and doesn't go to the bathroom unless she is alone, she is house broken to a pad in the bathroom and you can't go in their with her......that's a no-no!.
She is pictured above for those of you who have not seen this little charmer.

Just some recent news events related to the "OLD MAN"
Joan Ann Sullivan
Joan Ann Sullivan, my close and dear friend, since the late 70's, has retired from ADP here in Houston and moved to Tampa FL....you know that place where all "dem damn" "yanquis" end up. She was originally from Manhattan, NYC, NY and...so....you know they always migrate to Florida in the Winter. God Speed to her and friends and I hope that her recovery from a recent illness continues and she will find great enjoyment in Tampa. We will miss her here and at the casinos in Louisiana and Mississippi.
We are thankful to Bobby, who came in from Tampa and took care of Joan Ann after here recent hospital stay and to Dennis, who came to help move her to Florida to her new home. May they all have a great and wonderful life in the sunshine state.
Tom Parker
Tom Parker, our tenant here a Lonewillow Plantation for the last year, has moved near his job in Spring-Cypress area and we wish him well in all his future endeavors.
Lanny Thomas and Scooter
Mr. Lanny Thomas, Cyclist and frequent guest here at Lonewillow Plantation, was the victim of a careless driver in the French Quarter, New Orleans, who ran a stop sign and hit him last week. He is at home recovering from a severe ankle wound and hopefully a not so severe break. Of course, we won't be seeing the scooter scooting about for about 10 weeks or more, while he heals. We are so glad he wasn't hurt worst, but we know the pain of not being able to walk......terrible. Good Luck with a speedy recovery....hopefully you be able to join your "scooter gang" again soon, in the mean time, have another glass of white wine.
Annise Parker
Annise Parker,City Comptroller and the openly gay candidate, polled the most votes in yesterday's Mayor election here in Houston. She will oppose Gene Locke, Afro-American and former City Attorney, in the run off election on December 12. If you live in Houston City Limits and vote, please cast your vote for Annise. We hope she is the next Great Mayor of Houston. See more on this at:
FALL WEATHER has finally come!!!!
We hope all are enjoying the fall weather and the cooler temperatures, after such a long hot summer. Time to get ready for Thanksgiving and remember to be thankful this year for NO VIOLENT DEVASTATING HURRICANES.
Lola Mae Nesler-Kelly, Killer Attack Dog
Lola Mae wants everyone to know she is now weighing in at 10 pounds and having doubled her weight, since coming to the plantation, she is now guarding the grounds with an "WATCHFUL EYE," but can be bribed with any kind of treat you may have.
She is a "killer attack" dog, because she will lick you to death, before you know what has happened to you. She is quite a lover and licks everybody. who will rub her tummy when they come by to visit. She misses her friend Mademoiselle Simone of New Orleans and hopes that Mademoiselle Simone will be able to come visit her soon. She also wishes Uncle Lanny a speedy recovery.
That's all for now folks....PEACE!
