KENNETH LYNN THOENES, 1941-2011


December 25, 2011, Christmas Day,
From Warren Shippen in New Orleans, after a  call to Ken Thoenes last week.



"I tried to call Ken Thoenes this morning for Christmas. His brother answered and told me Ken died on Friday. I thought you would want to know." ~Warren Shippen
Gary Thoenes, Ken's brother sent this message to Warren.  He sent this message after I spoke with him.


Kenneth Lynn Thoenes was born February 12, 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died December 23, 2011 at Mala Strana in New Prague, Minnesota. Predeceased by his parents Erwin Hugo and Marie Kathleen (Stonek) Thoenes. Also predeceased by his brother Erwin James (Diane). Survived by sister JoAnn (Raymond) Lo, brother Gary, nieces Jennifer and Melisa, and nephews James and Timothy. Ken graduated from South Milwaukee High School (Wisconsin) in 1959. He served in the United States Army before graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He obtained his master's degree in Library Science from Louisiana State University. His first library position was with the Washington DC public library. Ken had a career position with the United States Naval Research Laboratory in Alexandria, Virginia.  Ken enjoyed retirement in Alexandria, Virginia, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Pensacola, Florida. 



Ken had been in declining health for a few years and was living near his sister in Minnesota.  Ken had been diagnosed with  Supranuclear Palsy.
